Volunteer Innovator Program (VIP)
The Heart of The Tech
Each volunteer is a key component of The Tech’s mission to inspire the innovator in everyone. We do this through exhibits, content, and programs that encourage hands-on learning.
Volunteers interested in joining the Volunteer Innovator Program (VIP) will need to attend a 3.5 hour orientation and tour at The Tech Interactive. These orientations are offered every month.

VIP Benefits
Volunteers at The Tech Interactive receive an array of benefits, including:
- Free Tech Pass including general admission and educational IMAX film for you (and up to 1 guest)

Types of VIP positions
We ask for a minimum commitment of two shifts per month for 6 months; although many volunteers end up staying with us longer.
Facilitated Experiences
These volunteers engage and interact with our guests and interpret exhibits and programs.
Visitor Services
These volunteers greet guests as they enter The Interactive and exhibit spaces.
Special Events
These volunteers assist with various special events for The Tech by facilitating exhibits and activities, or greeting guests. Shift days and times vary month-to-month. We ask for a minimum commitment of at least one shift per month for 6 months.
Adult Volunteers
The Tech Interactive is looking for volunteers who are 18 or older. Knowledge of science and technology isn’t required, but the desire to help inspire the innovator in everyone is!
High School Student Volunteers
Weekend Applications are open! If you are at least 14 years old, we are looking for high school volunteers to help us on the weekends. The commitment is at least six months or 12 shifts.
Other Volunteer Opportunities

A program set up for corporations to bring groups of 8–12 employees to engage young people in science, technology, engineering and math activities. We offer half-day (3-hour) and full-day (5-hour) activities. Priority for special activities and date availability is given to our corporate partners.

Serve our community with a particular focus on reaching historically marginalized groups with traditionally limited access to STEM educational opportunities. Volunteers will work at offsite events tabling, leading STEM activities, and sharing community resources.

A completely virtual program that matches local middle and high school classrooms with STEM professionals and post-secondary students interested in encouraging and inspiring the next generation of scientists, engineers, mathematicians, and beyond. Volunteers are able to select the speaking engagement that best fits their schedule and interests.
Be a STEMbassador

An engineering design challenge for Grades 4–12. Teams work for months to create a design, and along the way they meet with Tech Challenge advisors and are invited to test trials to perfect their design before The Tech Challenge showcase weekend. Volunteers help in many roles to make this two-day event possible.
